Where is Nepal?

Nepal is situated in between the People's Republic of China to the North and the Republic of India to the East, South and west. Nepal, the country of Himalayas, lies between latitudes 260 and 310 N and longitude 800 and 890 E. Nepal is about 900 kilometer long and 200 kilometer wide with an area of 147,181 square kilometer. The minimum height of Nepal starts from 60meter high from the sea level. The highest point is the Mount Everest at 8,848meter height which is the world’s highest peak, called as Sagarmatha in Nepali. Besides the Mount Everest, there are many other peaks above 8000meter from the sea level.

 

Nepal Location in Asia

Nepal is a landlocked country in south Asia in Asia continent. The population in Nepal is 27 million.  Kathmandu is the capital of Nepal. This largest metropolis has 2 million populations. Kathmandu retains very rich in terms of its culture, traditions, arts and architectures. There are other small traditional and cultural cities in the Kathmandu valley. Nepal has eight Cultural Sites and two Natural Sites registered by the UNSECO as ‘World Heritage Sites’. Seven of ten Sites are in Kathmandu valley itself.  

 

The climate of Nepal differs from one region to another because of its distinct geographical setup. Himal (4,877 to 8,848meter above the sea level), Hill (800 to 4,700meter) and Terai (the southern lowland plains) are three physiographic areas in Nepal.  The climate in southern part of the country is tropical whereas the northern part of the country is tundra. Terai lowland is suitable for agricul-ture which is very important region from the economic point of view. The mid-hills are suitable for grain crops and fruits. The beautiful green hills in Nepal contain lovely landscapes that are visible in most of the tour and trekking routes.  The northernmost part or highest elevation, which is always covered by the snow, has been contributing to promote the tourism and touristic activities in Nepal.

 

There are hundreds of rivers in Nepal.  Koshi in the east, Gandaki in the western region and Karnali in the mid-west are the major rivers to drain the country that are very strong rivers with high rapids. Rafting adventure is wonderful in Nepal because of the high current in the rivers. There are ten National Parks in Nepal for the tourists that are fund of Flora and fauna and wildlife.

 

Nepal, the very small country topographically, is hugely diverse geographically, climatically and bio-logically. There are diverse cultures, traditions, languages, religions and more than hundreds of ethnic groups. More than 100 languages are spoken in Nepal. Nepali is the official language. People working with tourism speak and write in English. There are qualified tourists guides who can speak Spanish, French, Chinese, German, Russian, Japanese and Italian with the tourists.   

 

Nepal, the birth place of Lord Buddha, is a unique country in the world because of its thrilling rivers and beautiful lakes; world’s highest point together with more than 240 challenging snowcapped peaks (6,096m) and long range of Himalayan panorama; thousands of green hill and landscape; na-tional parks situated in mountain, hill and Terai region, including the wildlife and the rich flora and faunas; forests; the ancient temples, monasteries and stupas; and the arts, architectures and diverse culture and traditions.
