Lumbini is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world. The birthplace of Lord Buddha is located 304 km south-west of Katmandu. Lumbini  is an easy exploration from the Royal Chitwan National Park and Tansen.

The main features of Lumbini are the historical and religious monuments, the Sacred Garden, the Maya Devi (mother of Lord Buddha) Temple and the Ashoka Pillar erected by the Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC. Lumbini contains also the remnants of an old monastery, Siddhartha pond where Buddha was bathed after his birth and Mahayana monastery.
