Namobuddha is dedicated to a young prince who sacrificed himself to a hungry tigress and her cubs. Namobudha is situated on the lap of a small hill at the edge of a forest. Namobudha is around three hours walk from Dhulikhel, the famous tourist place. Close to the main stupa, there is a monastery on the hilltop from where visiors can enjoy the great views of mountains, hills and green fields.

According to Buddhist sutras, Mahasattva was the incarnation of Sakyamuni Buddha. He was the youngest son of the king named Maharatha. One day, Mahasattva was passing through the forest with his two brothers. He saw a tigress with five cubs. She and her cubs hardly could move as they were very hungry. On the way to his destination, very far away from the forest, Mahasattva decided to go back to the tigress and feed them his own flesh. He went back to tigress and cut his flesh and gave them to eat. Later, his two brothers came back to that place in search of him but they saw only bones and hairs.

In the memory of Mahasattva, his brothers built a stupa on top of the remaining which became very popular among the Buddhist and Hindu people.
