Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,700m) and trek to Phakding (2,600m) and overnight at lodge/hotel.Lukla to Phakding is about 6.2 Km/3.8 miles and takes about 4 hours.

Trekking Foods and Drinks in the Everest Region

We can get all kinds of food while trekking, choose from a menu, and eat as much as we want. We do not recommend eating any kind of meat that has been carried by local porters from low land for 2-3 days. In the trekking region, they are not allowed to kill any animals. We recommend eating all kinds of vegetarian food and eggs. You can have meat when you arrive in Lukla or Kathmandu. You can get all kinds of drinks on the trekking route. We recommend drinking mineral water, boiled water, or purified water. A purifying tablet is provided by our guide. All kinds of cold drinks and beers are available in tea houses.

Accommodations during the trek to Everest Base Camp

In Kathmandu, we provide a 3-star equivalent hotel, like an international guest house with bed and breakfast. In the lowlands, we provide an attached toilet room for trekking. As we arrive at a higher elevation, it is difficult to get an attached toilet room.

Best season to trek to Everest base camp

October- December and March – May are the best seasons to trek to Everest Base Camp from the weather point of view.But we can organize the trekking through the whole year on request of the guests.In the off-season,there will be no more tourists,and it will be peaceful on the trekking routes and hotels.Though there will be snow everywhere in January and February,and in the monsoon there will be a little rain and fog some time.

 

Weather of Everest base camp trek

The weather is also very important factor during the trek in higher elevation. October- December and March – May are the best seasons to trek to Everest Base Camp from the weather point of view.Temperatures range from 22 degrees in the summer to -5 degrees in the winter day time. But at night, it ranges from -4 in summer to -15 in winter.Due to higher elevation it is less rain in everest region.In winter and monsoon some time it is foggy.

 

Safety of the guests and trekking staff

Safety is the most important factor in trekking for tourists and trekking staff. We are highly concerned about the safety of our guests as well as our trekking staff. If there is a small mistake with high-altitude sickness, landslides, crossing rivers, heavy rain, heavy snowfall, walking on slippery trails, or walking along the gorge trail, people can lose their lives. If we encounter these issues while trekking, we will either stop for a while or go to a safe location. We will proceed only after the situation becomes clear. Our guides and porters are very careful about the safety of guests, and we take the insurance I.D. or policy of all guests and the phone number of the closest relative before starting their trek. All our guides and porters are insured by the insurance company.

 

The guide and porter

We provide well-trained and experienced English-speaking trekking guides.Some of our guides speak extra languages like Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. Extra language guides are not included in this cost. In comparison to English-speaking guides, they are more expensive.We provide an additional language guide at an additional cost upon the guest's request.
Our guides and porters are very helpful, kind, and dedicated to their duties.Every day, they send us an update on the guest's condition and the weather.

 

Booking Terms and Conditions

Nepal Mountain Lovers Treks and Expeditions accepts your booking under the following terms and conditions:

1. To confirm your trip, we need a photocopy of your passport and 25% of the total price. After receiving your passport and advance payment, we send you the final confirmation receipt.

2. The remaining balance can be made after your arrival in Nepal. Full payment should be made before departure.

3. Payments can be wired by bank transfer, Western Union, moneygram, or credit card. Please use any of these means of transferring your money according to your convenience.

4. The bank service charge should be paid by you at the time of deposit.

5. We accept your last-minute booking (15 days prior to the trip departure date).

6. Travel insurance is compulsory for all clients undertaking any tour, trekking, or other activity with our company. It should provide adequate protection for the full duration of your Nepal trip with us to cover personal injury, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, helicopter evacuation, loss of luggage, etc.

7. In case of an increase in the government's royalties and other costs, such as the National Park fees, after your booking, you have to pay the increased money.

 

Cancellation by the clients

1. Cancellation of a confirmed booking must be made by you in writing, via email or written document, at least two weeks before the trip. Cancellation will be valid after receiving approval from Nepal Mountain Lovers Treks and Expedition.The trip shall then be deemed canceled,15% of the total cost would be deducted.But if tourists postpone the trip, we do not charge a cancillation fee.They can do the trip any time when they will have suitable time.

3. If the situation of the country is out of control and the country faces emergency situations, including natural disasters, before your arrival to Nepal, we will advise you not to come to Nepal and refund your advance amount. But in case of any emergency situations, such as natural disasters , after your arrival or during your trip in Nepal with us, we will try our best to make your trip successful and pleasant. However, we shall not be responsible for any changes in the itinerary due to unavoidable circumstances such as government restriction, land slide, road blockage, heavy flood or snowfall, political unrest, flight cancellation, delay, sickness, or accident. Any additional costs incurred as a result of such conditions will be borne entirely by you.

Visa: You can get an arrival visa at Kathmandu airport that costs 30 US dollars for 15 days, 50 US dollars for 30 days and 125 US dollars for 90 days. Please bring 2 passport-size photos. You can get your visa from the closest Nepali embassy too.

 

Important Information Before Your Trip to Nepal

Room System: Normally we have two people in a room. Twin bed or single bed depends on the choice of guests and budget. If tourists want single room, he/she should pay single supplementary.

Trekking Leading Person: Our trekking guide will lead the whole trip with his/her helpers and porters.

Currencies: USD, AUD, EURO are major acceptable currencies in Nepal and visa and credit cards also accepted. There is ATM facility in city area.

Altitude Sickness: Altitude sickness will start from 3000 meter height. Trekkers should immediately inform trekking guide if faced any problems.

Drinking Water: We can get mineral water and boiled water in city area and in some trekking places. We use water purification tablet or liquid in some remote trekking sites.

Laundry Facility: Laundry facility are available in city area but not during the trekking.

Orientation Program: Before starting trekking, trekkers are provided with an orientation by our office representative or trekking guide about the necessary trekking information.

Group Size: There will be maximum 12 persons in one group.

Accommodation: You will stay in a nice tourist standard hotel/resort in city areas. Normal hotels or tents are available during the trekking.

Foods: We provide breakfast, lunch, dinner. Tourists can get continental food both in city and trekking places. Food during the trekking might not meet the standard of your country.

View of Mount Everest: Trekkers to Everest region will of course see the Mount Everest. For trekkers visiting other regions where they cannot view Mount Everest, there are daily mountain flights which approach close to Mount Everest.

Travel Insurance: It is compulsory to have travel insurance.

Personal Expenses: It depends on your spending interest and shopping. There are some expensive handmade carpets, Thanka paintings, jewelries and handicrafts to purchase in Nepal.

Luggage: We take only about 10kg per person in trekking. Your excess baggage will be stored in a hotel.

Tips: Tips are highly accepted and appreciated.

 

Rules and Regulation

Nepal Mountain Lovers Treks and Expedition accepts your reservation under the following rules and regulations.

1. If the balance payment is not paid before your departure for trekking, the booking will be cancelled without any refund.

2. If the situation of the country is out of control and the country faces emergency situation before your arrival to Nepal, we inform you not to come Nepal and refund your payment. But in case of any emergency situation after your arrival or during the trekking, we will not refund your money. But we will try our best to make your trip successful and pleasant. In such situation, we may need to change the trip plan and itinerary.

3. In case of increase in government royalty and other costs such as the national park fee, you have to pay extra money.

4. If you commit any illegal act or disturbance for the safety and welfare of the group, our leader or guide can ask to leave the group without any right to refund.

5. If you have any complain with regards to trekking and tour please inform our tour leader or company. All kinds of valid complain are welcomed and processed with necessary actions.

6.You are responsible to ensure that all travel documents are with you during the entire trip.

Naming of Mount Everest

In the Nepali language, Mount Everest is called "Sagarmatha." Sagar means the sky, and Matha means above. Nepali people believe that the peak of Mt. Everest is above the sky. "Chomolungma" is the name of Mt. Everest given by the local Sherpa people from the Everest region. Chomolungma means the mother goddess of the earth.

First climbers on Mount Everest

In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgey made successful climbs on top of Mt. Everest. Since then, it has become very popular worldwide and is the most wanted mountain for trekkers and climbers. Hillari and Tenzing used the route to Everest Base Camp.

How can we arrive at Mount Everest base camp                                           

There are two main trekking routes, Jiri (drive from Kathmandu) and Lukla (fly from Kathmandu), to Everest Base Camp. From Lukla, the main trekking point, the trekkers hike upwards to Namche Bazaar, known as the Sherpa capital. Those who prefer a long trek can take the Jiri route, which passes through the Sherpa village, the High Suspension Bridge, the Zobkyo Caravan (a family of Yak), Sagarmatha National Park, and Namche Bazzar.

For the Everest Base Camp trekking, we have two different trekking packages: tea house and camping trek. In tea house trek, we provide lodge accomodation and food at the hotel.

 How hard is it to go to Everest base camp?

Definitely, the Everest base camp trek is a hard trek due to the higher elevation, though there are hundreds of breathtaking views. You can make it easy if you follow some rules and regulations before starting your trek towards Everest base camp. Most of the time, tourists suffer from high-altitude sickness and fatigue. High-altitude sickness begins at 3000 meters (9700 feet) and continues until you reach the Mount Everest base camp at 5364 meters (17433 feet). If tourists walk slowly and steadily with many breaks on the way to the trek, they can acclimatize easily, and the trek will be easy. On the way to the trek, every 1 to 2 hours, there are tea houses where tourists can have enough liquids and rest to protect themselves from high altitude sickness and fatigue. because there are not many up-and-down hills. The trekking trail ascends gradually, with only a few steep sections. If possible, try to practice walking through steep terrain. Jogging and swimming are equally helpful. Any exercise that is convenient for you and helps you be fit is recommended.

From Kathmandu, it takes a minimum of 5 days to arrive at Everest base camp if you are very fit; otherwise, it takes 7 days. The 5-day trip is one way to Everest base camp, and coming back takes 4 more days. For a comfortable walk, it takes 7 days to arrive at base camp and 5 more days to come down.
